Circular Buildings Coalition (CBC) - Accelerating Circular Economy in the Built Environment
Smith is the overall program manager for CBC, as well as being thought leaders when it comes to innovation in the construction industry. We facilitate the partnership between Metabolic, Arup, Circle Economy, World Green Building Council, World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Laudes Foundation. We are also in charge of communications, ensuring the mission and vision of the coalition is portrayed accordingly to the wider community.
In the project, Smith:
- Manages grant and is responsible for disbursement of funding
- Holds strategy and responsibility for maintaining and reviewing strategic direction in collaboration with partners
- Owns and operates governance processes
- Holds CBC’s visual identity and external voice, leading and co-ordinating communications activities with support from partners
- Co-ordinate projects partner support for blueprint projects.
- Leads on growing membership where appropriate, onboarding new members and lead on tracking funding opportunities as well as better leveraging corporate funding from partners
- Organises and runs regular check-ins to maintain alignment between partners and monitor progress on tracks / Driving Group activities.
- Hosts an annual CBC partners and networks event
In our approach to running the overall program management and building partnerships, we continuously have a strategic view of the overall objectives.
At Smith, we view meeting climate requirements as an initial step toward systematically reducing the construction footprint across various aspects. The coalition is spearheading crucial efforts to promote the circular economy model and adhere to planetary boundaries. As we progress through this transition, it's crucial to ensure that present solutions are adaptable for a future characterised by limited resources. Embracing and implementing a circular economy ethos is a critical solution that must be fostered and integrated across sectors, particularly when considering the materials shaping our future buildings.
