Our approach to innovation

We specialise in innovation management in the built environment. We work across the entire innovation process, from early ideation to scaled implementation, with a strong focus on creating impact and value throughout the process.

We believe that the greatest change and progress is achieved by combining strong procedural skills with a deep understanding of the subject matter. Our professional facilitation encompasses the organisation, conditions and technical aspects within the built environment.

We pride ourselves on creating space for diverse expertise, including those outside the conventional boundaries of construction. The answer to complex problems lies not in a single discipline but in the interaction of multiple perspectives. We recognise the unique strengths of different disciplines and how they complement each other, strategically aligning them towards a common overarching goal.

While our clients are experts in their own realities, we specialise in uncovering blind spots and facilitating processes that invite more stakeholders into the realm of development and opportunity.

Development happens through relationships and collaboration. At Smith we leverage our network to create a cohesive whole. We value an international perspective and understand the importance of relating assignments to both Nordic and European contexts.

Rooted in both research and practice, we bridge the latest developments in the construction industry with new professional academic knowledge. We convert research findings into actionable recommendations and inform research with practical experience, facilitating a two-way exchange of knowledge.

We are analytical. We synthesise and generate new knowledge, but also suggest directions for the future.  Not to impose anything, but to concretise and illustrate developments. The interaction between the concrete and the abstract is a method of gathering feedback and creating greater understanding and clarity for all concerned, thereby ensuring progress and effectiveness.

Our Innovation Principles

Established in 2009, we have developed and refined innovation models that provide certainty in uncharted territory. Our innovation principles describe our approach to solution models and how we facilitate innovation. Use the slider below to explore all 10 of our innovation principles.
