Expanding the biobased agenda and our team

The growing focus on the biobased agenda makes projects like Roads to Biobased Construction an increasingly integral part of Smith. However, with this expanding interest comes a greater workload. Fortunately, we have found the solution – in fact three solutions – in our new team members. Since the beginning of the year, we have welcomed Emilie-Sofie, Youssef, and Hannah to our team.
Sharing a background in Strategic Design and Entrepreneurship, all three bring valuable expertise in the intersection of architecture, strategic design and business development. Their interdisciplinary perspectives strengthen our ability to drive meaningful change in the construction industry.
Emilie – Driving Biobased Innovation
As the first addition to our team in 2025, Emilie joined Smith in January — just in time for this year’s HÅNDVÆRK fair. She quickly became an integral part of the team, assisting in the preparation of our stand and enhancing our strategic communication. With a master’s thesis in biobased innovation management in construction and the organization of systemic change, Emilie has a deep understanding of the biobased agenda and value chain. This makes her a perfect fit for the Roads to Biobased Construction project and its mission to establish and scale value chains for biobased materials while connecting key actors across the industry.
Youssef – Visualizing Biobased Solutions
Just a few weeks later in February both Hannah and Youssef joined us as well. While pursuing their master’s degrees they will be assisting Smith in student positions. At Smith Youssef is also assisting on the Roads to Biobased Construction project by creating illustrations and visual elements that communicate key messages. His expertise in visual storytelling, facilitates the skilled simplification of wicked problems, allowing more meaningful engagement from broad audiences across the construction sector.
Hannah – Communicating Circularity
Last but not least, Hannah is responsible for external communications related to the Circular Buildings Coalition. From her practical experience with design and innovation from her work at various architecture firms, she has developed a keen understanding of the built environment's potential to drive sustainable change. The theoretical nature of her previous academic projects serve as a solid base for her role at Smith and our efforts towards a more sustainable construction industry – environmentally as well as socially and economically.
We are thrilled to have Emilie, Youssef, and Hannah on board and look forward to seeing their contributions take shape both professionally and socially at the office.
